PMR's currency maintains stable exchange rate despite economic pressure
Pridnestrovie's own currency, the PMR Ruble, has survived an economic downturn caused by external factors and maintains its exchange rate. The Central Bank of Pridnestrovie expects no near-term devaluation.
Pridnestrovie's own currency, the PMR Ruble, stays stable.TIRASPOL (Tiraspol Times) - Despite economic losses and lower exports caused by changes in customs rules which were introduced on the border with Ukraine in March, the currency of Pridnestrovie is stable. With insignificant variations it has maintained its exchange rate throughout the year. The Central Bank expects no devaluation or other deterioriation in the value of the currency for the remainder of the year, pointing to the inherent strength of the economy of Pridnestrovie in spite of the customs measures by Ukraine.
Soon after independence in 1990, Pridnestrovie introduced its own currency: The PMR Ruble, abbreviated PRB. The nation's Central Bank issues both coins, known as Kopeks, and its own full Ruble bank notes.
Pridnestrovie's currency is convertible with US dollars, Euros, and other currencies at a freely floating exchange rates, updated throughout the day by the nation's major banks. At the time of writing, the PMR Ruble trades at 8.31 per US dollar and 10.52 per Euro.
The Central Bank of Pridnestrovie, Pridnestrovie Republican Bank (abbreviated PRB), is recognized internationally as a national central bank. It is listed among 125 actively working global state financial establishments on London’s Center for Central Banking Studies website, CCBS at the Bank of England.
The Central Bank maintains settlements accounts internationally and Pridnestrovie own currency is fully convertible. Exchange rates are posted daily by the Central Banks and by all major banks in the country.
Pridnestrovie - also known unofficially as Transnistria - declared independence in 1990 and has functioned as separate state ever since. It has its own flag, currency, police force, constitutions and other symbols of statehood.
A conference held at the European Parliament in Brussels concluded that unrecognized states like Pridnestrovie need a way to be heard by the world. "It is necessary to create and sustain permanent mechanisms of involvement and consultation of unrecognized state entities in the international community". This will benefit everyone, says the event's official statement. . .
