TIRASPOL (Tiraspol Times) - With the proclamation of a new party named "Fair Pridnestrovie", the number of political parties which are legally registered in Pridnestrovie now comes to ten.

The party positions itself as a left-wing opposition party. It combines socialism with patriotism and is in favor of independence for Pridnestrovie. The latter point, independence, resonates with the overall sentiment among the voting population in general: The overwhelming majority of voters are also pro-independence, and only one party - the small Social Democratic party - favors a confederation of Pridnestrovie with neighboring Moldova.

The leader of the new party, Yuri Gervazuk, is a 48 year old lawyer from Tiraspol. He is an independently elected member of Parliament. He is also the head of CJSC “Textile-group”, is married, and has both a daughter and a grandson, according to information provided by the press service of Pridnestrovie's parliament.

" - The party is working very closely with the Russian party Fair Russia, which has assured us that it is ready to cooperate and support its Pridnestrovian colleagues," says Yuri Gervazuk.

The leader of the new party, Yuriy Gervazuk, 48, is the head of the privately owned "Textile-group" business and currently also a member of PMR's parliament.

Existing MPs join

Three sitting members of Parliament decided to join the membership of the new party at its founding congress. In addition to Yuri Gervazuk, the chairperson of the parliamentary legislative committee, Galina Antufeeva, also became a member of "Fair Pridnestrovie." Newly elected independent Valeri Ponomarenko, who stood against Igor Smirnov's daughter-in-law Marina Smirnova in a by-election in June, also joined the party.

"Fair Pridnestrovie" has as its role model a new Russian party, "Fair Russia", which is one of the four major parties in the Russian State Duma (parliament). Sergey Mironov, the chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, is the party's chairman.

As a leftist opposition party, "Fair Russia" combines socialism, patriotism, and populism. Its slogan is "We are the party of the working man."
In recently held regional elections it finished third after United Russia, the largest party, and the Communist Party, which got the second highest vote total.

Independence considered a main goal

In its founding party manifesto, the new party "Fair Pridnestrovie" proclaimed as its main goals a united people striving for recognition of the independence of PMR. The party sees independence as a way to secure a more just and united society.

" - What is happening to working people of Pridnestrovie, where for a number of objective and subjective reasons people do not feel secure in the future, can only be called an IN-justice. The main aim of this new party is to restore social justice in society and create a climate of social security," says the inaugural party manifesto.

At the moment, a total of ten registered political parties exist in Pridnestrovie.

Apart from "Fair Pridnestrovie", the latest, the nine others are: The Republican Party ("Respublika"), Renewal, Breakthrough ("Proriv"), Pridnestrovie Communist Party (PKP), Communist Party of Pridnestrovie (KPP-CPSU), Patriotic Party of Pridnestrovie (PPP), Liberal Democratic Party of Pridnestrovie (LDPR), The People's Will, and the Social Democratic Party.
