More EU aid in time for Pridnestrovie's 17th independence anniversary
TIRASPOL (Tiraspol Times) - The Irish humanitarian aid agency East European Aid announced this week that it is immediately sending a container of medical equipment and general medical supplies to the 'de facto' independent republic of Pridnestrovie.
The medical cargo is being directed to the Mother and Child hospital in the capital city of Tiraspol. The hospital is the unrecognized country’s main hospital for maternity and childcare, and the cargo will include vital life saving and life supporting equipment along with general medical supplies.
The Irish charity has shipped nine containers of medical supplies to Pridnestrovie since 2003 and has a continued programme of assistance collaboration with the medical institutions in Pridnestrovie. The medical supplies which are currently en-route from Ireland are donated free of charge from Irish hospitals and medical institutions co-ordinated as part of a global program.
- Medical care getting better
Robert Jones, a spokesperson for East European Aid, stated: "We have noticed a massive increase in the quality of healthcare in Pridnestrovie since 2003 and each year it has improved on the previous year. I have the utmost praise for the hospital management and staff for the continued quality of the healthcare in Tiraspol and surrounding cities."
" - The teamwork and co-ordination between the hospital management, doctors, nurses and technicians is a major contributory factor to our own desire to work with Pridnestrovie's medical professionals," said Robert Jones.
It is the assessment of East European Aid's medical committee is that Pridnestrovie's hospitals have been steadily improved and advanced in recent years, and the charity considers the Republican Mother and Child hospital a good example of the level that many other countries and hospitals in Eastern Europe should strive for.
The Irish aid agency highlighted what its spokesman considered close historical and cultural ties between Pridnestrove and Ireland.
" - There has always been a close affinity and affection between Ireland and Pridnestrovie. A deep bond of friendship has grown between the peoples of both countries through various initiatives," said Robert Jones. An official delegation from Ireland will visit Tiraspol during the coming week to discuss future and ongoing developments with the PMR Ministry of Health.
