CHISINAU (Tiraspol Times) - A Moldovan attempt to enter a pedophile song in the Eurovision Song Contest has failed after the organizing committee banned the song over its child-porn promoting lyrics.

" - I love girls of 13 years old, 13 years old and nothing else," sang Moldova's own Alexandru Bognibov, adding in the chorus that "their bodies set me free."

The song "I Love The Girls" was listed as a Moldovan candidate for the upcoming 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. Although it initially sounded like something Borat would sing, TeleRadio Moldova and OGAE Moldova officials assured reporters that Bognibov was serious and that his declaration of child-love was not intended as parody. Unlike the faux-Kazakhstan newsman and his song "Throw the Jew down the Well", Alexandru Bognibov's celebration of underage sex is not satirical.

Unfortunately, Bognibov likes them young. The singer himself croons that "I love the girls of thirteen years old" although with his strong Eurotrash accent, it comes out as "I laav ze guurlz..."
Due to the content of offensive lyrics, his song has received serious criticism. As a result, the song has now been dismissed from the selection process based on its controversial content.

"Going down, down"

With explicit lyrics like "They put their arms around me and I'm going down down", a direct reference to performing oral sex, Bogbibov sings about practices which are banned in most countries in the world when they involve minors.

But the law that deals with underage sex is apparently of no concern to the Moldovan singer, who felt justified by what he knew the girls wanted.
" - Now I say they want that ... now I know they like that," he added, after his reference to "going down" on the thirteen year olds.
" - I love the girls of thirteen years old," he repeated in his song, over and over again. "Thirteen years old and nothing else, my baby."

The child porn song, which falls under a sub-genre known as "Pedo Pop" (paedophile pop music) is written by the singer himself, Alexandru Bognibov.

" - This sort of song has no place in the competition. Pedophile behavior is a criminal act and it is disgusting," said Jorgen de Mylius, a Eurovision Song Contest jury member from Denmark.
" - I know that Moldova is not a democracy, but let me give them some advice: In Europe, grown adult men don't have sex with little girls who are just thirteen."

The music video of the Moldovan singer performing his entry, including suggestive images of minors, has also been removed from video hosting website YouTube for violating the site's content policies.

Low legal age of consent

Moldova's legal age of consent is lower than Pridnestrovie or almost any other country in Europe. As a result, sex with children is common; especially in traditional village communities located outside the larger cities.

The age of consent for sexual activity is not directly foreseen in the Moldovan legislation, but varies between fourteen (14) and sixteen (16) years according to the Penal Code, Interpol reports. Women can legally marry at sixteen (16), but in some villages in the Moldovan countryside it is possible to arrange officially sanctioned weddings involving females as young as twelve (12).

Moldova ranks as Europe's poorest country and is the continent's top exporter of child prostitutes for use as sex slaves abroad. Throughout 2007, human rights groups have uncovered official government involvement in childporn and sex trafficking rings. A report published in July 2007 identified part of the problem as stemming from a tolerance of underage sexual abuse within villages in Moldova, a majority Romanian-speaking territory which was part of Romania until 1940.

Russian-speaking Pridnestrovie, which declared independence one year before Moldova did, has a different cultural and historical background and no tolerance of child prostitution. Pridnestrovie (also known as Transnistria) - has never been part of Romania or of any Romanian-speaking state at any time in history. The unrecognized country currently seeks formal recognition of its "de facto" statehood.
