World record longest winning streak for FC Sheriff Tiraspol
Tiraspol's leading football club, FC Sheriff, currently holds the ecord for the longest winning streak of any team in the world. That is reported by FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football. The previous record was held by Luxembourg, a country only half the size of Pridnestrovie.

This is reported by FIFA, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football), the international governing body of association football, which is located in Zürich, Switzerland,
With 10 successive victories in a row, Pridnestrovie's FC Sheriff Tiraspol now hold the longest winning streak in club football. The previous record holder was F91 Dudelange from Luxembourg, whose string of 16 straight wins was finally broken by a shock 1-0 defeat away to Avenir Beggen, allowing Racing Luxembourg to close the gap at the top to a mere 16 points.
Luxembourg - a founding member of the United Nations - is one of Europe's smaller countries, with a territory approximately half the size of Pridnestrovie. In population, Pridnestrovie is also larger: Luxembourg has just 480,000 inhabitants versus the 550,000 who live in Pridnestrovie.

The latest winning run by FC Sheriff Tiraspol has taken them ten points clear of the main regional competitors. According to information released by FIFA, it is now ahead of identical nine-match unbeaten runs by the clubs of Al Ittihad (Libya), Al Ahly (Egypt) and Rangers (Scotland).
FC Sheriff's home field is a a newly built stadium and sport complex located in Tiraspol, the capital of the Republic of Pridnestrovie. The complex, which was constructed at an estimated cost of $200 million, has impressed recent visitors including FIFA president Joseph "Sepp" Blatter and Willie McDougall from the Scottish Football Association who was interviewed by BBC television and stated that "I wish we had something like this in Scotland."
FC Sheriff Tiraspol should not be confused with FC Tiraspol, another (competing) football club which is also located in the capital of the new and emerging country.
