Yeltsin's final interview blames leftover-Stalinism for unrecognized countries
In his last-ever interview, Boris Yeltsin blamed the existence of unrecognized countries on Stalinist ethnic policy. He railed against "borders of republics drawn with a stroke of a pen" where centuries-long traditions were wiped out. Stalin's creation of the artificial Moldavian SSR, which united two historically and ethnically different sides, was one such example. [more]
